POV: Scout Pierre
Right after the last camp activity of the day, the Hermes cabin was the first to make their way over to the Amphitheatre, next to the Apollo cabin of course. I've only been here for a couple of days but it didn't take up too much of my mental capacity to realize that the children of Apollo lead the singalongs and had to arrive early to set up their musical instruments. We reached the log stands, and I was about to make my way to the back, where I wouldn't be bothered when a stray thought entered my mind.
You know what? I've had a good amount of time to recuperate from the social anxieties of camp. It's about time I establish who I am around here, make some friends.
A lot of people tend to overwhelm me, especially a lot of strangers my age, but in reality I was always more of an extrovert anyways, and I couldn't last too long in isolation. Everyone around here has been pretty friendly towards me anyways, and I gained a bit more confidence in talking to people again. I wasn't sure why I made befriending people my new primary goal tonight, but I figured better start sooner than later.
I stepped over various levels of logs until I reached the middle of the nature-made stands. I watched as the Apollo Campers set up an assortment of musical instruments, varying in what you'd typically see in a camp setting, like acoustic guitars and harmonicas, to something you'd see at your school's band practice, from electronic DJ boards, to even obscure and foreign instruments for most of them I couldn't even name. I really hoped they wouldn't be playing all of them at once. Chiron and Mr.D usually gave us a good half an hour to get settled and finish our conversations from the last camp activity before making announcements and singing along, so I figured it was as good a moment as any other to be better acquainted to with the other campers. I watched as more campers began pouring in, most of them sitting in groups based on their cabins, others more sprawled and with a variety of friend groups. If I closely watched I could tell which cabins were more inclusive than others. For example, the boundaries between the Hermes campers and the rest were non-existent- I had to do a whole 180 in the Amphitheatre to spot most of my cabin mates. As opposed to the Ares and the Aphrodite cabin, who seemed more... cliquey than the rest, despite their polar personalities. I hoped I wasn't in their designated seating arrangement, I definitely wouldn't want to be hounded by either cabin. I nervously rubbed my hand against my short-cropped hair, wondering if I should make any premade conversation starters in my head. I knew well before I tried that that sort of thing never worked on me, I always managed to either slip up on my words or completely throw away those metaphorical cue cards all together. I guess I'll just play up on the whole 'new kid' act. I was pretty good at that. I saw a few people walking over and I waved and smiled to get their attention, hoping at least one would catch my eye and didn't think I was actually looking at someone I knew.
